  • which phone?

I currently have 2 different types of phones in my possesion:

    • iphone 4s
    • samsung galaxy 3

And because I have these 2 phones, a lot of people have asked me what I find to be better.

Now I need to point out that I haven't used the iphone 5 but just basing on the fact that so many of my friends have actually SOLD their iphone 5's and reverted back to using the 4s because they don't really see it being a "real upgrade". But hey, if you're an Apple fan please don't come looking for me.

And my samsung galaxy 3 is by no means the 4G version, I got it just before the 4G came out (and yes I swore when it happened) but let's face it- the carrier that I'm on (starts with an O) has lead me to believe it wouldn't make a difference if it were 4G or not because their 3G connection alone is pretty dire- along the crappy side.

why i like the Iphone 4s:

    • it's simple to use, (i.e you need to go to less options to get to things for example: less steps to try to take a panaroma photo then it does on a the SG3)
    • everything just works, theres no lag time from app to app
    • when a downloaded app doesn't work means that most likely every other iphone user is having the same problem which means the developer is going to fix it- pretty quick
    • there are JUST that much MORE apps available and you can find almost virtually any app for almost any purpose, sometimes you find things you didn't know you needed to begin with
    • i didn't have to teach my parents to use any of the iphones, they just knew how to work it
    • Siri is pretty smart and impressive (you might not think so, but you haven't tried the alternative)
    • just syncs with my macbook

    Why I don't like the iphone 4s:

    • Sure, I haven't used the iphone 5 but when you download the new IOS, it's much of a muchness (please dont shoot me if you disagree). ANYWAY- it's got limited functionality. I.e on the galaxy you can take like lots of shots (one after the other)-they call it bursts shots- not an option available on iphone
    • the removal of google maps and youtube (sure you can download them from the app store) but what a waste of a download when it just used to be there? And let's face it- google maps is a LOT better than apple maps.
    • if i sync this device to another pc, i lose all my songs etc (good thing i dont have any) hahaha
    • i hate the fact that apple just won't comply with the rest of the phone world and makes you use a different phone charger. what a waste of resources!

Why I like the Samsung Galaxy 3:

    • screen is huge! Not to big like the galaxy note (one of their other phones), the screen is large enough to comfortably read but not to big where it looks ridiculous when making a phone call (galaxy note users- im talking about you)
    • lots of options, lots of ways to customize your phone to look different
    • can be used as a HDD- which means you dont lose your stuff when you sync from one computer to the next
    • standard phone charger across all the board (which is the small plug in-thingy)
    • if you have a gmail account, sync-ing your email, calendar and everything associated to it is a breeze!
    • the phone is smart, many times when the phones rung and ive put it face down- it knows to mute itself, or knows when im looking at it to keep the light on!

What i don't like about it:

    • whenever you download an app, you don't know if it's going to work. One of the biggest problems that exists in the Android world(and not many people discuss this) is that sure there's ONE operating system (what are we on now? ice-cream? gingerbread? i dunno why they have to name it after sweet things) but there are half a dozen dimensions for the phones with different specifications (i.e ram, chips whatever) which means there is no guarantee that a downloaded app is going to work on your device. A lot of developers claim that they make MORE money with apple than they do on android, well duh! if there's no guarantee that it's going to work on your device, why on earth would you pay for it? I mean that's the first problem I have.  There are a lot of games I'd love to buy but I wouldn't, I might with my apple phone.
    • the standard ringtones really annoy me. I dunno what drug the developers were on when they created it. But with names like "fairy fountain, gentle spring rain, midnight picnic", it makes you wonder. I just want the standard normal ringtones that comes with the phone, any phone actually. But im guessing that its due to copyright issues.

So far- both these phones haven't broken in my possession

And you know- Samsung as a brand, really redeemed themselves with the Galaxy 3... because i unfortunately had the misfortune of owning the original galaxy.. and HATED it, HATED the brand and seriously was nearing to throwing out the second story window then only running it over with my car- several times too. I couldn't believe Samsung could make such a terrible product or even willing to put something as dire as that onto the market. A lot of people had touted it to be better than the iphone 4 (sorry, im not sure what drugs they were on or how much samsung had paid for them to say those stupid things) but it was an inferior product, it lagged, it didn't work and it was just utterly crap. I hated it.

But the current galaxy- well it really gives apple a run for their money...

So the million dollar question... which one?

If you're new to the smart phone game or if you want to use something that's tried and tested and just works- go down the road of apple.

if you hate the idea of having an apple (because everybody has them) and you hate the craze that goes with it or you like something that allows you to customize it (because your savvy) then the samsung galaxy phone is for you.
