Sukin Product Review
Not to long ago, I was with a colleague having lunch… and we stumbled upon a handwash… that basically has changed my life forever.

Although it did take me quite some time to getting around to buying any of their products but I’ve ended up with the following:
- Foaming Facial cleanser: I love this! My face hasn’t broken out using it. Initially I was washing this with a face cloth but then I’ve converted over to combining this with a facial brush. My face feels cleaner with every wash! I have a love hate relationship with pump bottles because they’re never travel friendly BUT i have purchased a new bottle with a normal cap! Even though it says its a “foaming” facial cleanser- there really isn’t that much foam. One of the reasons I love this stuff is when I first started using this product, I had used a “make-up” remover and was starting to have an allergic reaction to it- you know burning skin etc. Without much thought (and not even knowing if it was going to help), I lathered this stuff on my face, interestingly enough it calmed down the redness and got rid of the burning sensation that was occurring. You can see why I love it.
- Cream cleanser: I don’t like this. It came in a sample “travel pack” and for whatever reason it made my skin so dry, I started to peel. Worst still- I was away from home (hence the travel pack). I used this for a week whilst I was away and couldn’t bring my foaming facial cleanser along. It also claims to remove make-up but it’s really no different to the foaming one.
- Hydrating Mist Toner: this also came in the travel pack. According to the pack it can also be used to “set make-up” which i’ve tried but couldn’t really tell the difference on whether or not my make-up did stay on for a lot longer. What I do like about it is that it’s really refreshing. My friend likes it because it’s got rosewater and the jurlique equivalent costs three times as much. What i don’t like about it? The fact that it’s a spray. I’m very used to doing the whole toner into a pad thing. I’m disappointed with myself because I recently purchased the Dermologica’s toner and it’s HUGE (prior to using this) and kinda wish I didn’t.
- Facial Moisturizer: I use this as part of my morning routine where I sometimes (if I can be bothered) add rose hip oil to the mix. But the facial moisturizer is lovely and light. It doesn’t smell too bad (just very organic, my friend thinks it smells like a day spa). I like it because it’s light, wouldn’t work if it was heavy as the sunscreen I apply on aftewards is heavy. In the beginning i was disappointed that it didn’t have any SPF in it but have gotten over it. However, if I find a product that is as light as this with SPF- I’d change in a heart beat.
- Moisturizing Restoring Night Cream: I use this obviously at night and it’s a LOT thicker than facial moisterizer. I ever take one step further and add the Rose hip oil in every night. In the beginning I found (with the mix of the oil) it used to just sit on my face, but after time I’m noticing that my skin is drinking this up and I’m waking up with soft dewy skin! According to their website this one particular product has one a lot of awards…
- Intensive Firming Serum:I use this before I put any of the moisterizers on. I really don’t know if it’s made a difference to my skin at all but I do it now because it’s become “part of the routine”. I read somewhere that Serums are meant to be good because it helps absorb the moisterizer more? (actually i dont know if thats even true). I’m not 100% sold on the product but like mentioned- part of routine now.
- Revitalizing Facial Scrub: I even got into the routine of scrubbing my face every 2-3 days (although lately I’ve started to become slack), I don’t mind using it because it’s not harsh on my face. Have used some scrubs where it’s felt like it’s ripped parts of my face off in the washing off process.
- Purifying Facial Masque: Probably the one product I wouldn’t necessarily buy again in a hurry. I use the mask on a weekly basis (usually on a Sunday) and haven’t found it to be THAT great. Especially being a “clay” based, I think I’m supposed to get that “extremely clean” feeling but I don’t. I’ve been using it for the last 2 months and seriously haven’t been able to love it like everything else, really can’t wait until it’s all finished. The product claims it “de-stresses” the skin- not even sure what that’s supposed to mean but it doesn’t look like it does anything. Also the packaging is this awkward tub and messy if you’re using your hands. So I’ve been using a brush to apply this stuff on. Oh- rinse your face first because it stains your towels!
- Rose Hip Oil: In the past I haven’t been a fan because it’s smelt badly and I wasn’t too sure on how to use this. But these days, I think I’m in LOVE with it (and I’ve gotten over the funny smell). I was warned by a friend that adding the oil to my routine could potentially clog me up so they were happy to take it off my hands should it not work out. I only added this process after 2 weeks of using the products (on a daily basis) and I only ever use 3 drops max (or else it becomes too much) and I’ve noticed that my skin has started to even out. I’ve even been using this on my dog bite scar and it’s starting to fade!
*a lot of these products have a very botanical smell to it- along the lines of the aesop smell*
I love Sukin because it’s organic (or well they claim to be anyway) but it’s also CHEAP. The prices range from 10-20 mark. A lot of the equivalent products i.e rose hip oil are sold for twice the asking price that Sukin sells it for. It’s even better that it’s stocked at a lot of places i.e health food stores, pharmacies and Priceline! Actually the best thing is that a lot of these places (mainly Priceline and Chemist Warehouse) have either 2 for 1 sales or 30% off on these products!! (yup hence why I’ve hoarded so many of their products!)I’ve also gotten a lot of my family and friends either intrigued or actually using the product.
And speaking of cheap, I HAVE tried some very expensive products over the years- everything from Lancome to the 3 step Clinique process, but let’s face it- everytime I go to renew the product, my bank balance cries just a little bit. And it’s a very expensive way to find out whether or not the product works for you, sometimes (considering I have somewhat sensitive skin) I have to rule the product out and basically wasted a whole heap of money for something ultimately considered as junk (can’t use it then it’s junk).
Although not too recently I went to a health food store at my local shopping centre who rubbished the brand and said the Sukin was no good hence why they stopped stocking it. They claimed that Sukin had changed the ingredients making some of the products not so- organic but when asked them exactly what was added and to what product- for whatever reason, they couldn’t tell me. Although this is the same store that sells Moogoo products $5 more than company’s website itself. I suspect that they got rid of the product because they couldn’t compete price wise with the other pharmacies and priceline when the sales were on.
Nonetheless if you ever get the time to read the list of ingredients- a lot of it is natural (not that i’m a chemist or anything) but it’s also paraben free. Parabens for those who don’t know is a kind of preservative widely used in the cosmetic industry (which is bad) and apparently can be cancer causing (which is even worse), although these claims haven’t been 100% proven. Although MANY cosmetic companies say that it’s safe but personally I’d prefer to stay away from the stuff you know may not be good for you.
