wedding receptions
I really admire people daring enough to go all out on a wedding venue. I have a friend who’s paying almost $17K for hers, another paying $12K and not too long ago, one paid $20K.
These costs DO NOT include the catering of the venue. The costs vary from $45 per person to $93 per person (being asian this means an 7-9 course banquet)
Personally I can’t justify spending that kind of money, well anything over $10K for a venue is a tad extreme for me. Like I have mentioned before, the nerve of these places to be charging out their venues at these ridiculous prices.
But when you start looking at the cheap end, you end up with nasty looking places. Really old fashioned stuff, to the point that it’s starting to borderline FOB-ness or for those who aren’t asian- country hick style.
So it’s a tough gig trying to find the right balance- something modern, nice looking but cheap. And that’s the key, anything over $10K is modern, anything under… well if they could charge the high prices they wouldn’t be so dire looking.
Then you have the tricky part of trying to ensure that the venue you are hiring doesn’t happen to be one that your family/friends have recently had their wedding reception at. Because that’s a bit awkward, or is it? To me it is, but as pointed out by my mother “you make it difficult for yourself hence why you’re having all this trouble”.
But every girl wants to be different right?
It’s not just trying to contend with cheap, modern looking venue where no one else has had their wedding but ensuring that there’s parking and it’s easy to get to.
One year, one of my cousins got married at a reception in Docklands which didn’t make it easy-parking wise and getting there. Basically I’m still hearing the grumblings from family members at how pissed off they were trying to find parking (and some hard to pay for parking -$25 is a bit of a rip).
As much as I don’t care about what half my relatives think, my parents do.
and that’s the other criteria.. finding a venue that gets the big fat tick from my mother.
Oh dear lordy… I might as well pull up a tent in the backyard… it’s much simpler that way. But I can’t because our backyard can’t fit 200-300 potential guests.
